Benefits News – Healthy Heart Challenge & Prizes

February is American Heart Month. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States — but the good news is that it’s often preventable. This Heart Health Fact Sheet provides heart-healthy tips to help you take action and reduce your risk.

Let’s work together to focus on heart-healthy habits for the last two weeks of February. No commitment, no pressure. We’ll just try to be conscious of our habits and work on one thing per day. Meeting goals and making life changes isn’t flipping a switch. It’s more like turning a dial because even one small change counts!

If you want to join the fun, work on some healthy habits throughout the end of February, and submit the Healthy Heart Challenge Response Form before March 2, 2026. All participants will receive a small prize. (Prizes may include things like herbal tea, hydration powder, healthy snack, dark chocolate, etc.)

Goals could include:

  • Find out how much water you need in a day and aim for that.
  • Skip a soda, coffee or alcoholic drink.
  • Eat five fruits & vegetables a day.
  • Bring lunch from home instead of eating out.
  • Get 7-9 hours of sleep at night.
  • Go outside for one of your work breaks.
  • Exercise for at least 30 minutes in a day.
  • Try to stand instead of sitting, whenever possible.
  • Schedule an annual physical with your doctor.
  • Research and practice stress management techniques.
