In Memory of Gary DeSimone

We are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved friend and biology instructor, Gary DeSimone, whose vibrant spirit and boundless enthusiasm left an enduring impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.  Gary was a valued member of the Rogue Community, having taught for the Science Department as an adjunct faculty member since 2013.

Most recently, Gary was teaching Biology for Health Professions. To quote members of the team, “He was a bright light in our department—full of life, always quick with a witty remark that brought laughter to the classroom and the lab alike. His passion for biology was infectious, and his joy in teaching was felt in every lesson he gave. Whether he was explaining complex concepts with clarity and humor or sharing stories of farm life and his love of a good beer after a long day, he connected with students and colleagues on a deeply human level.”

In addition to Gary’s work with Rogue, he was a beloved member of the Applegate Fire District family, serving as a firefighter and then as a board member. He was also a teacher at Rivers Edge Academy Charter School. His dedication to the college and the positive impact he had on students, staff and the wider community will be remembered with warmth and gratitude.

Final arrangements are currently pending with Gary’s family. We will share more information as it becomes available. If you would like to extend your condolences, cards can be sent to the Human Resources department. They will ensure they are forwarded to Gary’s family.

Please join us in holding Gary’s loved ones in your thoughts during this difficult time.
