AI Corner: Get More Out of AI

By April Hamlin

The Faculty Fireside Chat team invites you to check out this fantastic video on YouTube about getting more out of generative artificial intelligence from Jeremy Utley, who has suggested that we could all be working with genAI more creatively to get our work done. He has three strategies for approaching AI in better, more productive ways:

  • Don’t ask AI, let it ask you.
  • Do not “use” AI, treat it as a teammate (to improve your outcomes!).
  • Go beyond “good enough” ideas. “Creativity is doing more than the first thing you think of.”

Try it for yourself:

What we loved most about this video is Professor Utley’s suggested work prompt to get more out of AI, and here it is (You don’t even have to watch the video now, just try cutting and pasting this prompt into your GenAI product of choice!):

“Hey! You are an AI expert. I would love your help and a consultation with you to help me figure out where I can best leverage AI in my life. As an AI expert, would you please ask me questions one question at a time, until you have enough context about my workflows and responsibilities and KPIs and objectives that you could make two obvious recommendations and two non-obvious recommendations for how I could leverage AI for my work.”

Of course, Professor Utley has other great recommendations for how we can use genAI more productively at work – so if you are looking for new ways to deploy AI as your thought-partner, definitely invest in the 13 minutes it will take you to watch this video!
