The Adult Learner Enrollment Committee (AELC) is excited to share the launch of several Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) programs at Rogue Community College. Through CPL, students will bring prior industry or learning experiences to RCC for college credit towards a certificate or AAS degree.
Research shows that students who are offered CPL graduate earlier with less student debt. Nearly 50% of RCC students are adult learners between the ages of 25 and 64 (see data dashboard below). These programs enrich students’ experience, providing the opportunity to join the RCC community, obtain certificates or degrees and focus on their industry needs sooner, while reducing many of the traditional barriers.
Through this work, the following programs are now offering CPL:
- GED® and Pre-College Education
- Early Childhood Education (existing program)
- Allied Health Occupations
- Design and Digital Media and Art
- Emergency Services (existing program)
- Social Science and Human Services
Additionally, many other programs offer traditional CPL opportunities through standardized exams (CLEP, DANTES, AP, etc.), as well as military credit for free to students.
The new Credit for Prior Learning webpage can be shared with interested students in your advising and program planning. Programs interested in creating a CPL program should complete the Credit for Prior Learning Interest Form.
Members of the RCC community who are interested in learning more about CPL or becoming a member of the Adult Learner Enrollment Committee should reach out to committee chair Rusty Riis via email.
