The RCC Library is happy to announce that Infobase has added several new titles and series to our Films on Demand collection, including:

  • Mastering the Art of Information Literacy (8 titles) – This series teaches students how to critically review information presented and become masters at evaluating information in books, online, in the news, and information generated by AI.
  • The Art of Film, Season 1 (6 titles) – Explores the many layers of the world of filmmaking, exploring styles, themes, eras, genres, studios, partnerships and the many sensibilities that continue to shape cinema since its beginnings to today. Presenter Ian Nathan discusses each episode with filmmakers, cultural commentators, historians, authors and critics. [Robert’s note: I’m personally looking forward to episode 3, “Nouveau Horror”, and episode 6, “Comedy, Parody, Satire & Laughs”]
  • Evolution Earth (5 titles) – A global expedition to reveal the animals keeping pace with a planet changing at superspeed. Heading out across the globe to distant wilds and modern urban environments, five episodes track how animals are moving, using ingenuity to adapt their behavior, and even evolving in unexpected ways.
  • The American Buffalo: A Film by Ken Burns (2 episodes) – The dramatic story of America’s national mammal, which sustained the lives of Native people for untold generations, being driven to the brink of extinction, before an unlikely collection of people rescues it from disappearing forever. Ken Burns recounts the tragic collision of two opposing views of the natural world and the unforgettable characters who pointed the nation in a different direction.
  • How Not to Do Counseling: 13 Things to Try and Avoid – Designed for students of counseling and psychotherapy, this video with psychologist Mick Cooper examines what to avoid when talking to clients. Using vignettes of a simulated counseling session with “Martha,” the program focuses on the following topics: talking too much, being nosy, giving advice, giving empty reassurances, colluding with the client, being critical, keeping things superficial, blinding the client with theory, being defensive, doing things you’re not properly trained in, encouraging disclosure about trauma without proper preparation, being “weird” and overly self-disclosing. The vignettes are exaggerated in order to make a point.

And many more interesting titles, including America and the Taliban, The Great American Recipe (Season 2), Putin vs. the Press, and Moonshot: The Remarkable Journey of Apollo Chamber Players. You can discover these and many more videos here.
