RCC Military Services

Military Services and the Military Resource Centers (MRC) are located at the Redwood Campus, behind the Student Center and at the Table Rock Campus, in A Building, Room 150 & 151. Starting fall term, we now have Will Riddle, Military Coordinator, at the Riverside Campus on Tuesdays and Fridays in the Student Success Center, in Office B-25.

The MRC is staffed with VA Work-Study military students who will assist all students with information on the various Military Educational Programs (GI BillĀ®), RCC admission and Financial Aid, and guide them to other resources available on campus. MRC will host many events throughout the 2023-24 school year, including campus BBQs, Veterans Days, Street Clean Up and Student Veteran Organization (SVO) club activities. SVO is also a chapter of the Student Veterans of America (SVA).

In addition, Military Services is a partner of Peer Advisors for Veterans Education (PAVE). PAVE is a peer support program that connects incoming student veterans on college campuses with student veterans who are trained as Peer Advisors who can help them navigate college life, address challenges they may face, refer them to appropriate resources on and off campus and provide ongoing support. PAVE is a partnership between the Eisenberg Family Depression Center at the University of Michigan and Student Veterans of America. RCC is one of 49 campuses in partnership with PAVE across the United States. The PAVE National team continues to share best practices from the field, support each school and facilitate communication among them.

Come to your campus-based Green Zone training, which provides resources and knowledge to help understand and appreciate military students’ unique challenges and strengths. RCC Military Services is providing Green Zone training for faculty and staff. Green Zone training was pioneered at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 2010 and is now offered at more than 100 universities/community colleges and organizations nationwide. It is named for the secure international zone in Baghdad, Iraq, which is a place familiar to many post-September 11th service members.

In the 2022-23, Military Services had more than110 participants attend the Green Zone training. These participants include RCC staff, faculty and other community college partners. Look for the next Green Zone training coming to an RCC campus near you.

If you have questions or need any assistance with student veterans, please contact Steve Vandever, Military Coordinator, at 541-956-7288 or svandever@roguecc.edu.
