RCC Seeks Southeast Jackson County Interim Board Member

Zone 3 Vacancy Opens Seat

Jackson County, OR — The Rogue Community College (RCC) Board of Education (Board) is seeking applications for interim appointment to the RCC Board created by a vacancy in Zone 3 of the RCC District. The selected candidate will serve through June 30, 2025 and will be eligible to run for a full four-year term during the May 2025 election.

To qualify, interim candidates must reside in Zone 3 of the RCC District generally described as Southeast Jackson County including Rogue River, Gold Hill, Sams Valley, and Central Point.  Interested candidates should contact the Jackson County Elections office at 541-774-6148 to determine if they reside in Zone 3. District zone maps for RCC can also be viewed at the link.

Applications are now being accepted and will be reviewed as they are received. Qualified candidates will be interviewed and appointed by current Board members as directed by ORS 341.335(3). The first interview session, for identified qualified candidates, will be offered at the July 18, 2023 Board meeting. The seat will remain open until filled.

The period of service of an interim Board member appointed under ORS 341.335 begins upon appointment and expires on June 30 following the next regular district election, currently set for May 2025. If the successor wishes to continue to serve on the Board after their appointment ends, they must then run for election in the May 2025 special election. The term of office for an elected Board member is four years.

The seven-member Board is responsible for approving institutional budgets, policies, and contracts.  The college president reports directly to the Board, and through his administrative staff, carries out Board policies at the college. Board meetings are held in the afternoon of the third Tuesday of each month with periodic special meetings. These meetings rotate between the three RCC campuses located in Grants Pass, Medford, and White City.
