Rogue Community College to Expand Transportation Technology Programs with New Facilities

JACKSON and JOSEPHINE counties (Feb. 24, 2026) — Rogue Community College (RCC) has taken a significant step forward in expanding access to high-demand transportation technology education, following the Board of Education’s recent approval of contracts to construct new Transportation Technology facilities on both the Redwood and Table Rock campuses.

The expansion reflects RCC’s commitment to meeting regional and national workforce needs while increasing access for students across Jackson and Josephine counties. Across the country, the transportation industry faces a growing shortage of skilled automotive and diesel technicians as a large portion of the current workforce reaches retirement age. Federal labor projections estimate tens of thousands of annual openings over the next decade — driven largely by retirements — creating sustained demand for well-trained technicians.

Originally envisioned as a single-site project, the RCC Transportation Technology Center will now serve students in both counties, reducing barriers to enrollment and strengthening connections to local employers. By expanding capacity and modernizing facilities, RCC is positioning the region to help address this long-term workforce gap.

The new facilities will support updated curriculum and hands-on learning in automotive and diesel technologies, with first-year instruction redesigned to better align with industry expectations and emerging workforce trends. The program refresh has already received positive feedback from employers and community partners who rely on a skilled transportation workforce.

“This project represents an important investment in our students and our region,” said RCC President Randy Weber. “Transportation technology careers are essential to our local economy, and these new facilities will allow us to serve more students, modernize instruction and strengthen partnerships with industry and the community.”

RCC’s Transportation Technology programs prepare students for in-demand careers in automotive, diesel, fleet and related transportation fields. The expanded facilities are designed to support long-term growth and ensure students have access to modern equipment and learning environments that reflect today’s workplaces.

As construction moves forward, RCC will continue working closely with industry partners, workforce organizations and the broader community to help the Transportation Technology project reach its fullest potential and meet the evolving needs of the region.

Additional details about construction timelines and program expansion will be shared as they become available.

RCC is working in partnership with the RCC Foundation to explore opportunities to enhance and expand the Transportation Technology Center in alignment with regional workforce needs.
