You want to change the world, right? So what’s stopping you?

At Rogue Community College, we don’t just talk about making change. We do it, and we show you how to do it, too.

The Sustainable Community Development Focus Award are courses designed to educate and equip students in three vital areas: community engagement and leadership, sustainability, and diversity. When you become informed and inspired to make a difference in each of these areas, change will happen. And our community will benefit from your efforts.

  • Community Engagement and Leadership—Are you prepared to communicate and lead change? Learn how to become a dynamic leader in your sphere of influence.
  • Sustainability—What can people do to support the environment where they live, and to create self-sustaining lifestyles?
  • Diversity—How can we work together to value and utilize a variety of cultural ideas and strengths for the good of our whole community?

The Sustainable Community Development Focus Award is not an official certification or degree program. It’s an emphasis added to your current major or line of study, or it can be taken as a stand-alone offering. In other words, you don’t need to be enrolled in an RCC degree program in order to take the Focus Award courses. The program is a powerful resource for anyone who wants to impact the community’s economic, social, and environmental health.

So why pursue it? The better question is, why not? Here are some of the powerful advantages to enrolling.

The focus award is more than head knowledge. It gives you real-life skills to improve the world around you, no matter what your career goals.

The focus award makes a powerful statement on your resume, college application, or scholarship application. It shows potential employers and admissions reps that you’re truly invested, making you a stronger candidate for that job you’re dreaming of, or that school you’re dying to get into.
The focus award faculty advisor will write a recommendation letter for anyone who completes the courses.

The future of our community depends on passionate people like you. For more information or to get started on the focus award journey today, contact: Erika Giesen, EGiesen@roguecc.edu.
