The HECC recently recognized RCC faculty and staff for their service on statewide committees that shape higher education policy and student pathways across Oregon. In a letter to President Randy Weber, the HECC commended RCC employees for their partnership in advancing transfer, access and coordinated policy implementation, which benefits students statewide.
These committees play a critical role in reducing barriers for students as they move between high schools, community colleges and universities:
- Transfer Council,
- Common Course Numbering (CCN) and Major Transfer Maps (MTMs) workgroups,
- High School-Based College Credit Partnerships oversight and peer review, and
- Direct Admissions Workgroup.
Through CCN and MTMs, faculty from across Oregon collaborate to ensure that courses are aligned, transferable and clearly understood by students and advisors. This work helps students avoid unnecessary credit loss, shortens time to degree completion and supports more equitable outcomes, particularly for first-generation and historically underserved students. Participation in these groups ensures that RCC’s academic voice and rural-serving perspective are reflected in statewide transfer policy.
Similarly, service on High School-Based College Credit Partnerships committees enhances the quality and consistency of dual credit and early college experiences, enabling students to begin their postsecondary journey with confidence and momentum. The Direct Admissions initiative further expands access by simplifying the admissions process and proactively inviting eligible Oregon students to pursue college.
HECC emphasized that this work depends on the expertise and sustained commitment of faculty and staff across the state, and that it “couldn’t be done without” institutional partners like RCC. RCC’s participation reflects a deep commitment to collaboration, student-centered policy and statewide leadership in improving educational pathways.
We extend our thanks and congratulations to the RCC employees recognized by HECC for their service in 2025 and for representing RCC in work that benefits students across Oregon.
