‘Z’ Courses: Common Course Numbering Begins Summer 2023

The first series of courses that have been approved statewide for common course numbers will begin being offered in the 2023 summer term. These courses are identified with a Z added to the end of the course number (e.g. WR121Z).

Oregon community college and university faculty have worked to align learning outcomes in these courses to ensure seamless transfer for all students between community colleges and state universities. The courses below will be listed in the online schedule. While most are very similar or the same in title with only the Z being changed, MTH243 is very different so please pay close attention to the new course number of STAT243Z. This is the same course — just the numbering has changed.

COMM100Z Introduction to Communication
COMM111Z Public Speaking
COMM218Z Interpersonal Communication
MTH105Z Math in Society
MTH111Z Precalculus I: Functions
MTH112Z Precalculus II: Trigonometry
STAT243Z Elementary Statistics I
WR121Z Composition I
WR122Z Composition II
WR227Z Technical Writing

Please reach out to department chairs if you have questions, or review the online program maps for 2023/24 to see where the changes appear in academic programs. Students will not need to retake courses because of any of these name or numbering changes.
